Rest In Peace Ueli Steck

World famous alpinist Ueli Steck (41) passed away today after a tragic fall off Nuptse.  Ueli was solo climbing high on the face presumably with no protection when he fell.  His body came to rest in the vicinity of Mt. Everest camp 1.

I feel fortunate to have met Ueli and sad that our paths will never cross again.  Our hearts go out to Ueli's family and friends as we mourn their loss.

The type of climbing that Ueli practiced is for professionals and experts only.  My team and I will have multiple safety measures in place when traveling across exposed terrain to prevent a tragic fall.  While no plan is perfect, our conservative approach will help us return home to our families safely.

Namaste

  3. What a tragedy for the climbing world! He took the sport to a new level and inspired many.

It was great to read that you had just met him at EBC. What a treat!

I'm in awe with him even more after just reading about his 2015 expedition in the Alps. 82 peaks of 4K+ meters in 62 days while traveling by only hiking, biking, skiing or paragliding! https://www.outsideonline.com/2007931/ueli-steck-completes-82-summits-project

He was the real deal. We lost a good one.

By the way, I entered comments on two previous posts. Settling in to EBC and First Steps to be exact. Hopefully you saw my notes automagically.

    Be safe up there.

    1. PS ... What does Namaste mean at the end of your posts?

    2. Namaste is a respectful form of greeting in Hindu custom and is used both for salutation and valediction. It means "I bow to the divine in you". I imagine David is hearing it quite a bit from the local Nepalese.
